Our dreams will break the boundaries of our fears

dear you-don’t-even-know-who-i-am,
i hope you read this, and if you do, i hope you know exactly what it’s about. i hope you look at each syllable and know it’s for you in the same way you know the ocean’s salty and the sky isn’t always blue and how hearts are made for breaking. i hope each word burns like swallowing the sun, but i hope after the burn subsides, the warmth steals across your lungs until you’re your own secret star. i hope you glow as brightly.

i hope you look at this and somehow see art instead of disaster, look beyond the scribbled out words and ink splatters and see exactly what i’m trying to say. i hope reading this somehow takes the strange out of strangers. i hope after you read it, the landscape of my ribcage will be as familiar as the one of my heart and you won’t be afraid to embrace either. i hope now i’ve opened this door, you aren’t scared to walk through it.

and i hope my hopes haven’t frightened you. i promise, my hopes are simple. they are the honey and milk of the earth, the wheat and the wind. they are nothing but the hope between a girl and a boy, the hope my clumsy hellos always mask when i’m trying to say what i’ve been meaning to sing.

you see, this is my way of saying you’re beautiful in the most unbeautiful way. you see, i have the strange premonition we could make music together as soon as your artist’s fingers find the harp-strings binding my hipbones together. i have the oddest feeling we are the two puzzle pieces this whole damn world’s been missing, the key to the beauty everyone’s been looking for.

this is all this is: the hope for a chance, the hope for a sunrise, the hope for a beginning.
the hope you’ll read this and not know who i am, but at least hope to find out.
all this is, at the end of the day, is hope.
